A Letter To Above (Instrumental)

from Streams Vol. 2 by Thomas Rakowitz

about

This track was (and still is) dedicated to a friend's father who passed away. While creating the track and letting the layers wash over each other like waves, it was a somber reminder of all of those I've lost over the years. The track has two distinct parts: "Somber" and "Remember".

The "Somber" section is dedicated to the initial loss each of us feel when we lose something close to us that can never be replaced. It's in a "darker" tuning to reflect this. It's the idea that we can no longer create new memories with those we love.

The "Remember" section is for the reminder to everyone that, while we may not be able to replace those we've lost, they'll never truly disappear as long as we keep them close to us. We miss out on the ability to create new memories, but we have the ability to share those memories with fresh minds, and create original memories inspired by what we've already experienced. In other words, while I may not be able to have another afternoon of playing dominoes with my grandmother, I can share that with my family and friends, and create new memories that are inspired by what we've done.

Maybe it's just too much sap and introspective pretentiousness, but I think this track does a great job of going through the movements.
